Symbolism: Butterflies are also popularly thought to symbolize a person's essence, or soul, either past, present or future. The color blue in a butterfly is often thought to symbolize joy, color or a change in luck. Sometimes a blue butterfly is viewed as a wish granter.
Fun Fact: Karner blue butterflies live for only a week or two. During that time they mate and the females lay their eggs on a lupine plant. The eggs from the spring mating will hatch in the summer.
Area Located: The Karner blue butterfly once could be found from Maine to Minnesota. Today its population is limited to Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada. In New Hampshire, Karner blue butterflies are found in the Concord Pine Barrens in East Concord.
